Hyderabad tops list of communal cases for 3rd year in row: Report

Hyderabad recorded 28 communal cases in 2021, the maximum among 19 metropolitan cities.
Hyderabad recorded the maximum number of communal cases for the third consecutive year, according to a report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The city reported 28 cases registered under section 153A (promoting enmity on ground of religion) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The 19 Metros recorded 121 cases, out of which Hyderabad accounts for 23 per cent. Meanwhile, Delhi recorded 19 and Coimbatore recorded 17 cases.
According to NCRB data, Telangana recorded 562 rioting cases and a majority of them (135) were related to land disputes.

When it comes to cases of crimes against women, Delhi accounted for 32.20 per cent of total crimes in the category among all 19 metropolitan cities. Delhi was followed by the financial capital Mumbai, which saw 5,543 such instances, and Bengaluru with 3,127 cases.
As many as 833 cases of girl child rape, the highest among the metropolitan cities, were reported in 2021, as per the data.
