Hyderabad police ramp up vigil for Hanuman Yatra

Enhanced surveillance, deployment of special forces in sensitive areas and monitoring social media content remained the top priorities during a high-level review meeting of the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate ahead of Hanuman Vijaya Yatra scheduled for April 12.

In a video conference with senior officers, city police chief C.V. Anand examined the incidents reported during last year’s procession and assessed the proposed arrangements to ensure a peaceful and orderly procession this time. The route — stretching from Sri Ram Mandir in Gowliguda, Bible House to Tadbun Hanuman Temple — will undergo inspection by police officials, who have been directed to identify and resolve any logistical or safety concerns in coordination with civic authorities.

Mr. Anand emphasised the importance of heightened vigilance at intersections where smaller processions merge with the main one. Special forces will be deployed near religious sites, and organisers have been cautioned against using DJ systems, fireworks or coloured powders that could pose health or safety risks to people.

The police reiterated that provocative banners and unauthorised drone usage are strictly banned. Organisers have been instructed to limit the number of vehicles in the procession and to prevent any disruptive participation from outside groups. Participants have also been advised to maintain restraint during the return leg of the yatra.

Public cooperation has been sought to curb the spread of misinformation on social media, with authorities warning that the dissemination of rumours or provocative content could lead to legal consequences. Additional efforts will also focus on deterring petty crimes such as pick-pocketing and chain snatching, with dedicated teams deployed along the procession route, the official said.
