Hyderabad Police constable dismissed, arrested for harassing young couple

Constable Akash Bhatt harassed a man and his female friend near Hyderabad’s Bowenpally. He extorted Rs 15,000 and let them go, but continued to harass them on the phone, demanding another payment. The victims filed a complaint and the constable was arrested.
Hyderabad police chief CV Anand has dismissed a constable, Akash Bhatt, posted at Bowenpally police station for harassing and blackmailing a young couple.
Action was initiated against the constable after a complaint was received, which was followed up by a departmental inquiry.
On April 15, while on patrol, the constable spotted G Praveen Kumar and his female friend near Bowenpally Dairy farm and accosted them when they were having a conversation.
The constable abused Praveen Kumar and demanded money from them. He initially collected Rs 15,000 from the victims and set them free after making a note of their phone numbers.
Later, Akash Bhatt continued to harass the victims over the phone. He demanded more money and extorted Rs 15,000 again .
Upon receiving the complaint from the victims, Station house officer (SHO) Bowenpally registered a case against the constable and arrested him.
“He was dismissed from service with immediate effect as his act amounts to moral turpitude in a disciplined force,” said the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police.
