Bhargavi, a live-in maid, was arrested by Hyderabad Police for blinding her employer, Hemavathi, using a poisonous combination of Harpic and Zandu balm. She also stole Rs 40,000 in cash and some pieces of gold jewellery.
On Wednesday, March 2, Hyderabad police arrested P Bhargavi, a 32-year-old caretaker. She was arrested for blinding a 73-year-old woman with a poisonous combination of Harpic and Zandu Balm and then robbing her.
Hemavathi (73) lived alone in an apartment complex in Nacharam, Secunderabad. Her son, Sashidhar, who lives in London, had appointed Bhargavi in August 2021 to be a live-in housekeeper and take care of her.
As per a report by The New Indian Express, Bhargavi, along with her seven-year-old, moved into Hemavathi’s apartment. She had been waiting for an opportunity to steal from her.
In October, Bhargavi saw Hemavathi rubbing her eyes. She offered to put soothing drops in Hemavathi’s eyes. She then mixed Harpic, a bathroom cleaning liquid, and Zandu Balm in water and applied it to the old lady’s eyes.

A few days later, when Hemavathi told her son that she had developed an eye infection, he referred her to a nearby private hospital. However, when her eyesight worsened, her daughter, Urvashi, took her to the hospital again, but nothing was detected.
After the 73-year-old woman lost her eyesight completely, Sashidhar visited Hyderabad and took his mother to LV Prasad Eye Hospital.
