Olectra Greentech secures ₹424 crore order for 297 electric buses from Himachal Road Transport Corporation, promoting sustainable public transportation.
Hyderabad-based Olectra Greentech has secured an order for 297 non-air-conditioned, 9-meter electric buses from the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC).
The total order is valued at ₹424 crore, making it one of the largest single-state electric bus procurements under the outright purchase model, by a State Transport Corporation, in the country, the company said in a release on Wednesday (April 9, 2025).
Specially designed to navigate the challenging hilly terrains of Himachal Pradesh, the electric buses offer a seating capacity of 30 passengers and can travel up to 180 kilometers on a single charge. The deployment marks a major step forward in promoting clean and sustainable public transportation in the country.
“We are delighted to receive India’s first and largest outright order for electric buses. Our continued focus is on expanding our manufacturing capacity and enhancing our technological edge,” Olectra Greentech CMD K.V. Pradeep said.
Olectra formally received the letter of award (LOA) from HRTC Executive Director Murari Lal, the company said.

Four persons were killed and three others sustained injuries in a fire that broke out in a five-storey building housing several manufacturing units in Rohini Sector 5, the police said on Wednesday. Sixteen fire tenders were rushed to the spot after the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call about the blaze at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday. However, due to the combustible material stored in the building, including plastic and clothes, and the narrow lanes leading up to it, which prevented fire engines that ran out of water from giving way to other rescue vehicles, it took the DFS over 12 hours to douse the flames.
