A day after MNS Chief Raj Thackeray targeted NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and the party for "playing caste-based politics in the state", the NCP hit back by saying that Raj Thackeray is hungry for headlines.
The National Congress Party (NCP) has hit back at Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray, a day after the latter targeted NCP supremo Sharad Pawar and the party for "playing caste-based politics in the state".
The NCP said that Raj Thackeray is hungry for headlines. Talking to India Today TV, cabinet minister and NCP leader Jitendra Awhad said, “The politics of Maharashtra revolves around Sharad Pawar and you cannot succeed without involving him. Hence, to get noticed and make headlines, he blamed our leader,” said Awhad.
The NCP leader said if the party had played caste-based politics as alleged by Thackeray, then he along with Chagghan Bhujbal and others wouldn’t have become ministers.
“Show us if there have been caste-based riots in the state. He doesn’t know the history of the state and should read books of Prabodhankar Thackeray,” he said.
The cabinet minister also commented on Raj Thackeray’s stance on loudspeakers at mosques and the threat that loudspeakers with double volume would play Hanuman Chalisa. “This is the same person who, till a few years back, used to say that he had the entire blueprint for the development of the state. Is this the kind of development that he envisages for the youth of Maharashtra?” he said.

When asked about the Hindutva stance taken by Raj Thackeray and his praise for Uttar Pradesh, the NCP leader said that Thackeray is never consistent in his approach. “He comes out after every four months and changes his stance. This was the very person who had beaten up the people of Uttar Pradesh some years back. He might have forgotten it now but the people of Uttar Pradesh will never forget what was done to them,” the NCP leader said.
