Hundreds of people are marching in downtown Toronto on Sunday to protest the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The event, billed as "Mega March for Ukraine," began at Yonge-Dundas Square. It has been organized by the Toronto branch of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress.
Demonstrators are marching west on Dundas Street West, then south on Bay Street to Nathan Phillips Square. Speakers are expected to address the crowd in the square.
Chrystia Freeland, a Toronto MP and Canada's deputy prime minister, was at the front of the march. Toronto Mayor John Tory and Canadian author Margaret Atwood are also there to show support for Ukraine.
"Stand with Ukraine," the crowd chanted.
The marchers are holding blue and yellow Ukrainian flags and placards denouncing Russian President Vladimir Putin. There is a marching band playing music.
Toronto police said in a tweet that motorists should expect road closures due to the march.
According to police, Dundas Street West is closed from Yonge Street to Bay Street, while Bay Street is closed from Dundas Street West from Queen Street West.
