Amid rising cases of dengue across the country, doctors have warned that patients with Dengue Shock Syndrome, having a low platelet count, are likely to suffer from serious health issues.Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS) is the final stage of the more severe occurrence of Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF), and is fatal without prompt treatment.
Speaking with India Today TV, Dr Rakesh Pandit, senior consultant at Aakash Healthcare Super Speciality Hospital, said, "The severity of the patient is not only connected with platelet count. Dengue Shock Syndrome patients, with a 40,000-50,000-platelet count, can also be a serious case of dengue.""If the patient with a normal platelet count has other symptoms, including blood pressure fluctuation, haemoglobin, breathlessness, bleeding issues, stomach issues, then they are also at risk," said Dr Rakesh Pandit.ALSO READ: Dengue outbreak: 23,128 cases reported in Uttar Pradesh, highest since 2016
