How to participate in Taps Across America with CBS
CBSN
For the third year in a row, CBS is marking Memorial Day by inviting musicians of all abilities and ages across the country to honor our fallen soldiers by playing Taps during the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. local time.
Why Taps?
Taps is instantly recognizable as the somber 24-note bugle call played at American military funerals and ceremonies. CBS Evening News "On the Road" correspondent Steve Hartman was inspired by a story he did in 2012 on Don Brittain, who sounded Taps on his balcony at sunset. Hartman thought other trumpet players could do the same, so he launched Taps Across America on the CBS Evening News in 2020. Hartman and CBS hope that the annual nationwide event will continue to offer an opportunity to pause for a moment to pay tribute to fallen service members.

Americans are continually encouraged to sock away money in a 401(k) or other retirement plan to ensure a comfortable, if not cushy, life in their later years. Yet about half of all U.S. workers in the private sector lack access to an employer-sponsored retirement plan, a huge obstacle in building enough wealth to retire, a recent study finds.
