How prepared is Chennai as northeast monsoon picks pace in southern India | Ground Report

Questions are being raised over the preparedness of the Tamil Nadu government as heavy rains lash different parts of state, including capital Chennai. Here is a ground report.

The northeast monsoon has set in Tamil Nadu and many districts, including capital city Chennai, are receiving heavy rains. The India Meteorological Department has already predicted that the rainfall in southern India is going to be above normal.

The state government declared a holiday for schools on Tuesday in Chennai and eight other districts — Chengalpattu, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvannamalai, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Kancheepuram and Ariyalur districts.
