Fawad Khan made his debut in an Indian film with Khoobsurat on September 19, 2014. The film, which starred Sonam Kapoor opposite the Pakistani heartthrob, was released 8 years ago. Eight years later, we still cannot stop drooling over Fawad's looks and his baritone. In this week's Monday Masala, we explore how the khoobsurat Fawad Khan charmed his way to our hearts with Khoobsurat.
Khoobsurat was the remake of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s 1980-film of the same name, starring Rekha in the lead role. The fun family film was remade in 2014 with Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan as leads. The love story in Khoobsurat is straight out of a Mills and Boons novel and who would complain when you have Fawad play the prince charming to Sonam's Mili, who is a physiotherapist, appointed to treat the prince's daddy.
From the introduction scene, Fawad Khan steals the show. Dressed in a black suit with black necktie and a blue pocket square, he could make any girl go weak on the knee. While the original Khoobsurat was all about Rekha and much less about Rakesh Roshan, Fawad Khan got ample screen time in the remake and we aren't complaining.
Many discovered Fawad Khan with Zindagi Gulzar Hai and later were enamoured with his performance in Humafar. It was Khoobsurat that proved to be his big-ticket entry into Bollywood. Dressed in suits and bandgala, Fawad's Prince Vikram Singh Rathore made girls swoon. The actor who charmed his fans with his eyes, even went shirtless and made chest hair look sexy.
Sonam had this infectious energy as Mili, who had no filter and loved to break rules, whereas Fawad's Vikram was the complete opposite of her. The duo's on-screen chemistry was loved by many. We see Fawad saying 'hum bilkul alag hai', yet fails to stop himself from falling for Sonam's Mili. He even tries to friendzone her but ultimately fails and proposes to her in the middle of a paintball match.
When Fawad Khan went down on his knees in Khoobsurat, many girls might have wished it was them instead of Mili who he wanted to grow old with.
After Khoobsurat, Fawad was seen in Kapoor and Sons and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. The actor will soon be seen in the Pakistani film, The Legend of Maula Jatt.
