GEM Hospital launches Erbe TriSect Rapide surgical instrument for efficient, minimally invasive surgeries with global expert recommendations.
GEM Hospital on Wednesday officially launched a surgical instrument that enables surgeons to perform procedures with less instrument exchanges, less blood loss and minimal tissue damages.
P. Senthilnathan, director, GEM Hospital, Chennai, told reporters that the instrument - “Erbe TriSect Rapide” - was launched in a few centres in India in December 2023 that was followed by one year of product evaluation for all kinds of surgeries - hernia, liver surgeries, oncological procedures, colorectal surgeries and gynaecological surgeries.
In December 2024, 250 surgeons from across the world met for an experience sharing on the instrument following which it was installed in a few institutions in India including GEM Hospital. The hospital has so far utilised the instrument in over 50 surgeries ranging from oncological procedures to complex abdominal surgeries.
He said that electricity from three directions is generated to cut and seal tissues. It integrates three functions into a single, seamless tool, improving efficiency of surgeries and reducing the overall time a patient spends in the operating room. The device aids in performing dissection, sealing and coagulation, and can be used for both open and laparoscopic surgeries, he said.
Dr. Senthilnathan was one of the surgeons to try the device in India and was part of the global experts group for the clinical use recommendations of the new instrument, a press release said. Pranshu Abhishek, head, Marketing, Erbe Medical India Pvt Ltd was present.
