Honda City hybrid variant promises a fuel efficiency of 26.5kmpl and is the only strong hybrid in its segment. Bookings are now open and launch will take place in early May 2022.
Honda has unveiled the India-spec hybrid variant of the City sedan ahead of its launch in May 2022. The Honda City e:HEV has a hybrid powertrain that promises impressive performance combined with high fuel efficiency. Bookings are now open and can be made through Honda dealerships or online.
The Honda City e:HEV hybrid features a 1.5-litre Atkinson Cycle petrol engine combined with an electric drive motor that outputs 80bhp and 253Nm and an electric generation motor that outputs 95bhp. The combined power output is 126bhp. A CVT handles gearbox duties. Being a strong hybrid, the sedan can operate in pure electric, hybrid and pure internal combustion modes, the switch between the three is, of course, seamless, depending on speed and throttle inputs. Thanks to the hybrid powertrain, the Honda City e:HEV has a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.5kmpl.
Visually, the Honda City e:HEV looks nearly identical to its petrol and diesel counterparts. There are a few subtle differences, however. The Honda insignia gets blue highlights, which combined with the e:HEV logo on the boot lid, reveal its hybrid credentials. The fog lamp housing up front is slightly different as well.
With the launch of the Honda City hybrid, the company is also introducing its Sensing driver assistance features that include lane keep assist, frontal collision warning and automatic emergency braking, auto high beam and adaptive cruise control, making the City e:HEV the only one in its segment to feature ADAS tech.
Honda City e:HEV hybrid price will be announced in early May. Expect to cost close to Rs 20 lakh (on-road). Bookings for the City hybrid are now open and can be made via Honda's dealerships with a Rs 21,000 deposit. Bookings can also be made online with a Rs 5,000 deposit. Honda is offering the City e:HEV with a 3-year/unlimited km warranty and an 8-year/1,60,000km warranty on the lithium-ion battery.
