Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been invited to attend Durga Puja celebrations in Kolkata.
The Santosh Mitra Square puja committee has invited Union Home Minister Amit Shah to attend the Durga Puja celebrations in Kolkata. Bengal BJP leader and Puja committee secretary Sajal Ghosh said Amit Shah was invited to attend the opening ceremony and might inaugurate the Durga puja pandal.
According to sources, the home minister has verbally agreed to inaugurate the puja.
This year the theme of the puja is 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav'. The entire puja mandap will be decorated in tricolour. Pictures of Red Fort, India Gate and the new Parliament building will adorn the puja mandap.

The idol is being made by artist Mintu Pal. Sajal Ghosh said, "We choose this theme to celebrate 75 years of independence. We have invited Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the occasion."
Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee hiked the donation amount for each club organising Durga Puja to Rs 60,000 from last year's Rs 50,000, besides announcing a 60 per cent rebate on electricity bills.
