Hochul’s Christmastime boast of safer subway came amid string of alarming violent attacks

Democratic Gov. Kathy Hochul celebrated a statistical decrease in New York City subway crime, including minor and major offenses, just days before several fatal and near-fatal incidents.
"Since deploying the [New York National Guard] to support [the NYPD] and MTA, safety efforts and adding cameras to all subway cars, crime is going down, and ridership is going up," she wrote on Dec. 22. Charles Creitz is a reporter for Fox News Digital.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), while mostly serving the five boroughs, Long Island and Lower Hudson Valley suburbs, is a state-operated, not city-operated, agency. He joined Fox News in 2013 as a writer and production assistant.
