Johnson noted that Hispanic Americans, Native Americans and many tribes make up a large portion of the district's constituency, pointing to the Navajo Nation and Pueblo tribes that exist in New Mexico, along with the Jicarilla Apache Nation.
"As a candidate, I'm an amalgamation of those cultures," Johnson said. "I'm a Hispanic woman and I do have Native American ancestry through my oral history, however, I am not a tribal member. I predominantly associate with being a Hispanic woman, and I'm involved in a lot of the Native American communities."
