Congress had claimed that three of its Jharkhand MLAs, arrested in the cash haul in West Bengal's Howrah, were in touch with the Assam ChiefMinister.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said he continues to be in contact with Congress leaders because of his long association with the party, downplaying the allegations of his involvement in a ploy to topple the JMM-led Jharkhand government.
Mr Sarma, the BJP strongman of the Northeast, said Congress leaders are his old friends and there is nothing much to read into it.
"Congress leaders keep in touch with me as old friends. I had been in that party for over 20 years. They meet me if they come here and I also meet them when in New Delhi," he told reporters.
Mr Sarma, who switched over to the BJP in 2015, made the statement after the Congress claimed that three of its Jharkhand MLAs arrested in the cash haul in West Bengal's Howrah were in touch with the Assam Chief Minister.
