Hijab row: Students submit memorandum to Deputy commissioner in Shivamogga asking to allow hijabs in class

Students wearing hijabs submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Shivamogga District on Thursday, February 17. They asked to be allowed to attend classes while wearing hijabs.
Students in hijabs entered the office of the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Shivamogga District in Shivamogga on Thursday, February 17. They submitted a memorandum seeking to allow hijabs in class. They further asked that the media and police not be allowed inside the campus.
Meanwhile, school and college students are protesting outside multiple colleges in Shivamogga district.
More than 40 students in hijabs and burkas were stopped outside the gates of DVS independent college in Shivamogga city on Thursday, February 17. Officials told the students to remove their religious clothes before entering classes.
The students were not ready to listen to college authorities, which forced them to lock the gate.
Meanwhile, in Shivamogga’s Kamla Nehru College, students organised a protest on the road outside the college. They demanded that hijabs be allowed inside.
As per ground reports, students had a discussion with the authorities to allow them inside as the exams were just around the corner. Around 30 students returned from classes and were standing outside college.
Section 144 has been imposed in Shivamogga and no crowd is allowed to gather within 200 metres of schools or educational institutions.
