In an exclusive interview with India Today, Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi said that the Karnataka hijab row is indicative of how ‘hate politics’ is getting stronger in India day by day. Further, he accused the ruling BJP of “emboldening elements” who indulge in ‘hate politics’.
“This is not about hijab, this is hate politics getting stronger day by day. BJP is emboldening these elements,” he said.

AIMIM chief Owaisi said that denying Muslim women the right to wear the hijab is a grave violation of the “constitutional fundamental right of choice”.
“Various Supreme Court judgments make it clear that no one can dictate what one should wear or eat. Choice is a fundamental right. So then, why has this government issued this notification [not allowing girls to wear hijab in certain Karnataka colleges]?” he added.
