The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) is planning several highway closures on the portion of Highway 403 that runs through Hamilton, starting Friday at 11 p.m. and continuing until 5 a.m. Monday morning.
The city said the closure is for "rehabilitation work", which includes replacing and waterproofing the highway's asphalt, fixing cracks in barriers and abutment walls, replacing a median at the Old Guelph Rd. section of the highway, and repaving Macklin St.
In a press release, the city said the construction will take place at the Macklin overpass, the Old Guelph Rd. overpass and the eastbound section of Highway 403 between King Street W. and Highway 6.
The King St. W. and York Blvd. entrance ramps to the eastbound 403 will be closed as well during the construction. The city said the closures will likely cause traffic delays around Main St., King St. and across the lower city in general over the weekend.
Drivers on the eastbound 403 will be directed to a detour route on the Lincoln M. Alexander Pkwy. Drivers in downtown Hamilton should plan for extra travel time, due to the traffic.
The city said that Hamilton Street Rail (HSR) users can also expect delays, particularly on the 5 Delaware, 6 Aberdeen, 7 Locke, 8 York, 9 Rock Gardens, 10 B-Line and 51 University, which all travel through the affected area.
