Emergency crews were called to the scene in Keith Township, east of Foleyet, around 3 p.m. Sept. 18, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Thursday morning.
A 38-year-old from Chapleau was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Highway 101 remains closed at Nova Road between Foleyet and Highway 144, police said shortly after 10 a.m.
A detour is available for passenger vehicles only through Nova Road.
"The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the OPP traffic incident management enforcement team," OPP said.
There is currently no estimated reopening time.
