
High-speed broadband project T-Fiber service ready in over 7,100 gram panchayats

Telangana's T-Fiber project expands high-speed broadband to homes, institutions, and enterprises, aiming for digital empowerment and innovation.
Telangana government’s T-Fiber project to provide high-speed broadband connectivity to households, government institutions and private enterprises over an optical fibre backbone is ready to move beyond the proof of concept (POC) stage.
A total of 8,891 gram panchayats (GPs) and 424 mandals are connected with its optical fibre network. Of them, 7,187 GPs in 336 mandals are service-ready, T-Fiber said on Thursday after IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu took charge as Telangana Fiber Grid Corporation Limited (T- Fiber) Chairman and opened its new office premises here.
The aim is to connect 30,000 government institutions this year and progressively connect remaining 60,000 by 2027, it said in a release. As part of the programme the Minister launched a host of services and presided over the signing of MoU with multiple industry partners. For the POC, T-Fiber in collaboration with service delivery partners had showcased a host of services to households across four villages and connected 4,000 homes.
Launching T-Fiber’s new logo, website and T-NxT, a next-generation portfolio of services aimed at enhancing digital governance and innovative service delivery, Mr. Sridhar Babu said with a 43,000 km optical fibre network, T-Fiber will be one of its kind in the country.
T-NXT marks the shift from infrastructure creation to integrated digital services offering. Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), Native Cloud – DC & DR as a Service, Security Operations Center (SoC), Application Development in AI, AI Consulting Services, Integrated Digital Ads and App Management, Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Testing (VAPT) are among the services envisioned.
The Minister also launched T-NxT’s Sovereign Cloud, a State-owned, secure platform to host all government of Telangana’s data through an engagement with top tier IV data centre agencies; and AI-powered virtual assistant/chatbot TeRA of T-Fiber.
Seeking to highlight how T-Fiber will play a crucial role in achieving the government’s goal of digital empowerment of the people, he said every household will get a smart TV and on it access to multiple services over the last mile fibre connectivity. Besides its focus on government institutions and households, T-Fiber is keen on extending enterprise connectivity solutions as well as facilitate in the fiberisation of mobile towers.
