Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in Delhi on Monday on a four-day visit to hold talks with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi following which the two sides are likely to ink pacts in key areas, including defence, trade and river water sharing. Ms. Hasina, who last visited the country in 2019, was received at the airport by Union Minister Darshana Jardosh and will hold talks with Mr. Modi on Tuesday in the national capital. During her stay, she will also call on President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar.
The stage is set for the commencement of the Monsoon Session of the State Legislature from September 6. The ruling party is likely to introduce an amendment to the GHMC and Municipalities Act paving the way for the enhancement of the number of co-opted members. The amendment has been contemplated after the State Cabinet, in its recent meeting, decided to increase the strength of co-opted members from existing five to 15.
Delhi BJP MLAs will meet President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday to demand the dismissal of the AAP government over a host of issues, including allegations of corruption against its ministers. The BJP leaders will submit a memorandum to Ms. Murmu. The Met office on Monday predicted heavy rain in Odisha over the next few days as a new low pressure is likely to form weeks after three such weather systems resulted in devastating floods in the state. A cyclonic circulation is likely to form over east-central Bay of Bengal around September 7. Under its influence, a low pressure is set to take shape over west-central Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 48 hours, it said.

The last rites of Mistry (54), who was killed in the road accident on Sunday, will be performed at Worli crematorium. “Some family members are arriving in Mumbai by tonight (Monday night). Mistry’s body will be taken to Worli crematorium tomorrow and will be cremated at 11 a.m.,” the family member said.
