Over 3,000 people have been shifted to safer locations in Gujarat after heavy rainfall pounded the western state. With a red alert in place, three days of holiday were declared for educational institutions from July 11 in Telangana.
From the hill state of Uttarakhand to the southern state of Telangana, the monsoon is wreaking havoc. Heavy downpours are being witnessed across several states of the country, including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka, among others.
With the prediction of more rainfall in the coming days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rain alerts for several cities. A red alert was issued for parts of Telangana and Maharashtra, while an orange alert was issued for several districts of Kerala.
Meanwhile, over 3,000 people have been shifted to safer locations in Gujarat as several rivers were flowing above the danger mark due to the rainfall. Authorities have been asked to monitor the situation and carry out rescue operations wherever required.
Heavy rains pounded many parts of south Gujarat, leading to a rise in the water level of some rivers which caused inundation in various low-lying areas. A total of 3,250 people have been evacuated in Gujarat, including 400 in Chhotaudaipur, 550 in Navsari and 470 in Valsad. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has asked all district collectors to be ready for the evacuation of more people.
There was flooding in some low-lying areas of Valsad after a rise in the Orsang river level. Authorities in the Navsari district were also on alert as the Kaveri and Ambika rivers there were flowing above the danger mark.
