One person died and another was injured, both hailing from Tamil Nadu, after being swept away in a flash flood at Kumbhavurutty Falls in Kollam district.
Meanwhile, three people died after the car they were travelling in fell into an overflowing canal while trying to overtake a bus. The incident occurred on Monday, August 1 in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district.
Due to incessant downpours continuing in all south central districts of Kerala, a red alert has been issued by the IMD in seven districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Idukki. An orange alert has also been issued in Thrissur and Malappuram districts.
In Kottayam district, a landslide was reported at Moonilavu Village. Though the water level has been rising in Moonilavu town, the disaster management authority in the district has reported no serious damage.
