Heat wave set to peak Wednesday and Thursday in Nova Scotia

A heat dome that is bringing extreme temperatures to a large swath of eastern North America will peak across Nova Scotia over the next two days.

Some heat records will likely be broken in Nova Scotia as high temperatures climb into the low to mid 30s for most areas on Wednesday and Thursday, with "cooler" temperatures in the mid to high 20s along parts of the coast.

On top of the high temperatures, there will be tropical-like humidity, which is also building into the region.

Dew points will climb into the high teens and low 20s across the province, which means the air is quite saturated with moisture.

With more moisture in the air, your body has a much harder time cooling itself down as sweating becomes more difficult.

This is not only true during the day, but also overnight when sleeping will be quite uncomfortable, especially for those without air conditioning.

Nighttime lows will be in the high teens and low 20s on both Wednesday and Thursday night, as the muggy air stays parked over the province. 

The good news is there is an expiry date on this hot and humid air mass. 

A frontal boundary will move across the province throughout Friday morning, shifting the winds to north and ushering in a much fresher and drier air mass. 

In the meantime, heat warnings are in effect and Nova Scotians are being advised to drink plenty of water and watch for signs of dehydration and heat illness, such as heat stroke and heat exhaustion.
