CBC
Alberta Health Minister Jason Copping will provide an update on COVID-19 this afternoon.
The news conference will begin at 3:15 p.m. MT. You can watch it live here.
Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta's chief medical officer of health, said on Feb. 15 that she would be taking two weeks off and that Copping would provide updates while she was away.
Copping is expected to provide a daily breakdown of positive test results conducted between Friday and Tuesday.
Exact numbers of new positive tests weren't available Tuesday because of a technical issue over the weekend.
Alberta reported 1,380 people in hospital with COVID-19 on Tuesday, including 95 patients in intensive care, continuing the steady decline seen recently. As of Friday, Alberta had seen 3,830 deaths related to COVID-19.
The Alberta government is expected to announce on Saturday whether it will proceed with phase two of its plan to lift public health restrictions. The changes, if approved, would become effective on March 1.
COVID-19 vaccines for children are being made more widely available at pharmacies, physician offices and Alberta Health Services clinics.
From March 2 to March 16, AHS clinics will provide vaccines for children aged five to 11 on a walk-in basis, the government said in a news release Wednesday. The service may continue after March 16 if there is enough demand.
Hours at AHS clinics for appointments and walk-ins will be 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. weekdays, and noon until 6 p.m. weekends. Locations can be found online at albertahealthservices.ca.
About 150 pharmacies and some physician offices will also offer pediatric vaccines starting March 2. Some of the pharmacies may offer the vaccines on a walk-in basis.
The pharmacies are in Edmonton, Calgary, Red Deer, Lethbridge, Grande Prairie, Medicine Hat, Fort McMurray and some rural communities. The focus will be on areas with under-vaccinated populations of children ages five to 11, the government said.
