A 33-year-old head constable of the Delhi Police died allegedly by suicide by hanging himself using a bed sheet inside the premises of Chandni Mahal police station on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Rahul Tyagi, a resident of Netaji Subhash Nagar in Delhi's Shahdra who had been posted at Chandni Mahal police station since March, 2021.
The matter came to light after Rahul's father informed police that Rahul had not been responding to repeated calls, following which some police personnel rushed to the barrack and found that the door was bolted from inside.
When Tyagi did not respond to their numerous calls, they broke open the door only to find him hanging from the ceiling hook using a bed sheet.
Following this, Rahul was immediately brought down and rushed to LNJP Hospital where he was declared brought dead.
The body has now been shifted to the Mortuary of MAMC for post-mortem. The head constable is survived by his wife and two sons. Rahul's father is a retired (retired in January 2022) Sub-Inspector from Delhi Police.
