Ravindra Jadeja is likely to be out of action for at least three months after suffering a right knee injury, which would require a surgery. He was ruled out of the Asia Cup after playing group match against Hong Kong.
India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is set to miss the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia next month as the star player will undergo major knee surgery, which is expected to keep him out of action for an "indefinite period of time".
The 33-year-old Jadeja, who played two group matches at the Asia Cup against Pakistan and Hong Kong, was ruled out of the continental tournament after suffering a right knee injury. The all-rounder was replaced by standby Axar Patel in the India squad at the Asia Cup and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team.
Jadeja's absence will be a big blow to Rohit Sharma-led India at the T20 World Cup 2022 as he provides a balance with his all-round abilities.
"Jadeja's right knee injury is pretty serious. He is supposed to undergo a major knee surgery and will be out of action for indefinite period of time. At this point, if one goes by the assessment of the NCA's medical team, one can't put a timeline on his imminent international comeback," a senior BCCI official told PTI news agency.
It could not be confirmed whether it is a case of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), in which recovery takes at least six months. However, the injury is likely to keep Jadeja out of action for at least three months. The all-rounder's issue with his knee has been there for a long time and a close look at his role in the team suggests that he is converting himself into a batting all-rounder across all formats, with his left-arm spin bowling becoming a secondary skill.
It has been understood that the pounding that Jadeja's right knee takes while landing of his front foot while bowling has had its impact. Moreover, his recovery would need a thorough rehabilitation programme before he could make a comeback to international cricket.
