The co-founder of fact-check website Alt News was arrested over a four-year-old tweet sharing a screenshot from a popular Hindi movie.
Twenty-three days after he was put behind bars over what the police said was a "highly provocative tweet", fact-checker Mohammed Zubair walked out of jail on Wednesday night after being granted bail in all the cases registered against him in Uttar Pradesh. Shortly after his release, his business partner and co-founder of Alt News Pratik Sinha thanked people for their support and promised Mr Zubair will "be back real soon". Zubair wants to convey his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who stood by us and supported us in the last few weeks. He'll be back real soon. pic.twitter.com/PkyYOnEewh
"Zubair wants to convey his heartfelt gratitude to everyone who stood by us and supported us in the last few weeks. He'll be back real soon," Mr Sinha tweeted, sharing a photo with Mr Zubair.
Mr Zubair walked out of Delhi's Tihar jail at 9 pm and got inside a waiting car outside the jail. As he entered the vehicle, Mr Zubair, surrounded by his legal team, flashed a victory sign.
