The Calcutta High Court has ordered the constitution of a three-member committee to look into the rehabilitation of those affected by the post-poll violence in West Bengal.
The Calcutta High Court constituted a three-member team on Wednesday to look into the allegation that over 303 victims were rendered homeless due to the post-poll violence in West Bengal last year.
The committee will include representatives from the National Human Rights Commission, the State Human Rights Commission, and the State Legal Services Authority.
BJP’s Priyanka Tibrewal had told the Calcutta High Court that 303 BJP workers and supporters were still homeless due to post-poll violence in the state.
Violence erupted in parts of West Bengal following the declaration of the result of state assembly elections in May 2021. BJP workers and supporters alleged that they were attacked by the ruling Trinamool Congress workers. Hundreds were allegedly rendered homeless in the violence. The case was handed over to the CBI for further investigation.
