On June 12, VHP leader Devender Bajwa filed a complaint against a person for issuing death threats for supporting suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma. The VHP leader has accused the police of inaction.
Panchkula-based Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Devender Bajwa has accused the police of inaction even 22 days after he filed a complaint against one Gulzar Mohammad for issuing a death threat over supporting former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on social media.
The VHP leader along with the activists of Bajrang Dal, Raipur Rani Gau Seva Samiti, Durga Nirman and Seva Samiti, in a written complaint submitted on June 12, had informed the police that he was being abused on social media and getting death threats as he had objected to the defamatory comments being made by the members of a particular community against BJP leader Nupur Sharma on social media.
Devender Bajwa said that he started getting death threats from the Islamists over the phone and on social media. He claimed that Imams of some nearby mosques have also issued fatwas to behead him. He had also mentioned the name of one Gulzar Muhammad of a Samlehadi village in his complaint.
Meanwhile, Panchkula Police commissioner Dr Hanif Qureshi, while taking serious note of the negligence by SHO Rajesh Kumar and PSI Anil Kumar, sent them to police lines.
"We are investigating the case. The SHO and PSI have been removed and sent to police lines. The complainant, Devender Bajwa, has claimed that he was getting threats from Gulzar Mohammed on social media," Dr Hanif Qureshi said.
There is resentment among the right-wing Hindu organisations over the police inaction on the sensitive nature of the complaint. However, senior police officers assured the complainant that the culprits would not be spared.
