Haryana Steelers downs Patna Pirates to take home the PKL title
Haryana Steelers emerged victorious in the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 11 final, defeating Patna Pirates 32-23 here at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi on Sunday.
The encounter, billed as a clash between the league’s strongest defence — Steelers — and the most potent attack — Pirates — lived up to the hype. However, it was the Steelers’ balanced approach which ultimately proved decisive.
Shivam Patare, with a crucial nine points, spearheaded the offensive charge for Steelers, while its defence maintained a strong grip on the Pirates’ raiders, led by the dynamic Iranian all-rounder Mohammadreza Chiyaneh Shadloui, who contributed seven points.
The first half was closely contested with Steelers holding a slight edge. However, a crucial all-out early in the second half put it firmly in control.
It was a disappointing night for Pirates.
Its attack, despite boasting the season’s best raider Devank Dalal, struggled to find its rhythm, while its defence leaked points throughout the match. Only Gurdeep managed to win six tackle points.
This victory marks a significant milestone for coach Manpreet Singh, who finally tasted success after three previous final defeats.
