The demand to release of Swami Yati Narsinghanand and former Waqf Board chairman Wasim Rizvi (alias Jitendra Tyagi) were raised at 'Sant Sammelan' that took lace in Prayagraj on Saturday. Both Yati Narsinghanand and Wasim Rizvi were arrested in the Haridwar hate speech case.
At a 'Sant Sammelan' on Saturday, religious leaders demanded the release of Swami Yati Narsinghanand and former Waqf Board chairman Wasim Rizvi (alias Jitendra Tyagi) who were arrested for making provocative statements at a similar gathering in Haridwar last month.
Shankaracharya Narendranand Saraswati, the chief guest at the event, said Yati Narsinghanand and Wasim Rizvi should be released within a month.
Failure to do so in a month would result in "violent agitation", Shankaracharya Narendranand Saraswati said.
Earlier in January, Hindu religious leader Yati Narsinghanand was arrested by the Uttarakhand Police in the Haridwar hate speech case. He was the second to be arrested in the case after Wasim Rizvi alias Jitendra Tyagi.
At the Prayagraj Sant Sammelan, participants adopted three resolutions: first, they demanded that the Constitution be amended to declare India a 'Hindu Rashtra'. Second, to make stricter laws to discourage religious conversions and capital punishment for those who convert.
The third resolution demanded the unconditional release of Yati Narasimhanand and Wasim Rizvi, who were charged with promoting enmity between different groups through their discourse at the Dharam Sansad in Uttarakhand.
According to reports, this meeting was called by the same people who had organised the controversial Haridwar Dharam Sansad.
