Harbhajan Singh faces backlash for alleged racist remarks against Jofra Archer during IPL 2025 match, sparking controversy.
Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has triggered a row after he allegedly made racist remarks against England’s fast bowler Jofra Archer during an IPL 2025 match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday (March 23, 2025).
Harbhajan allegedly used a ‘kaali taxi’ (black taxi) remark against Archer during the 18th over of the match. The on-air comment was made when Archer, who was bowling to SRH batters Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen, was hit for consecutive boundaries by Klaasen on the second and the third ball of the over.
“London me kaali taxi ka meter tez bhaagta hai, Aur yaha pe Archer sahab ka meter bhi tez bhaaga hai [Like the meter of London’s black taxis, Archer’s meter has also been on the higher side],” Harbhajan was heard saying on-air.
The comments have triggered a huge row on X, with fans lambasting Harbhajan and demanding a ban on him.
Coming to the match, SRH’s power-packed batting, headlined by Ishan Kishan’s century, set up a 44-run win over Rajasthan Royals in its IPL-2025 season opener at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
