Halifax police on scene of shooting in north-end Halifax
CBC
A man is in hospital with gunshot wounds following a shooting Thursday morning in north-end Halifax.
Halifax Police say they responded to a report of an injured person in the 3600 block of Rosemeade Avenue around 7:30 in the morning.
When they arrived, officers found the victim with gunshot wounds. They say two men, who are believed to know each other, were in a fight and one man shot the other.
The man who was shot was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Officers were in the area looking for the suspect for hours. Police say he's a white man with short, dark hair wearing a beige cardigan over a white shirt, dark baggy pants, grey shoes and carrying a grey shoulder bag.
The shooting happened a few hundred metres away from St. Stephen's Elementary School and close to Highland Park Junior High School on the first day of school.
Lindsey Bunin, communications officer with the Halifax Regional Centre for Education, said in an emailed statement that both the schools were placed in hold and secure as a precaution, meaning no one was permitted to enter or exit the buildings. Families were notified of the situation earlier this morning.
The hold and secure orders have since been lifted and the school day is continuing as usual.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact police.
