CPL 2022: Shimron Hetmyer will be captaining the Guyana Amazon Warriors after Nicholas Pooran moved to the Trinbago Knight Riders for the upcoming season.
Guyana Amazon Warriors, on Thursday, August 18, named Shimron Hetmyer as their skipper for the 2022 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Hetmyer replaced Nicholas Pooran, who would be plying his trade for the Trinbago Knight Riders.
Hetmyer made his debut for the Warriors back in 2016 and has played five seasons under the captaincy of Pooran, Shoaib Malik and Chris Green.
"We are pleased to appoint our first Guyanese captain since the 2013 season. Hetmyer has been a main part of our setup over the years and we believe the time is right to have him lead the team," Bobby Ramroop, the chairman of Amazon Warriors, was quoted as saying.
Hetmyer was also delighted after being appointed as the new skipper of the Guyana franchise. "I'm excited to lead this group of men. I can't wait for the CPL to begin," Hetmyer said.
In 47 matches in the CPL, Hetmyer has scored 1149 runs at an average of 28.72 and a strike rate of 131.76 with one century and eight half-centuries to show for his efforts.
The Warriors are scheduled to start their CPL 2022 campaign against Jamaica Tallawahs on Saturday, September 3 at Warner Park in St Kitts.
The Amazon Warriors are yet to get their hands on the CPL trophy despite playing in the final as many as five times since 2013.
