Gurugram: Bank executive assaults woman after she objects smoking in shared auto; arrested

The incident happened on Monday when the victim, who works in a private hospital in Sector 51, boarded the same auto as the accused while returning to her home. When asked to stop smoking, the man, in a fit of rage hit her in the face, chest and stomach, leaving the victim bleeding profusely.
On Monday, a 35-year-old woman, resident of Delhi's Wazirabad was allegedly thrashed and assaulted by a private bank executive while travelling in a shared autorickshaw near Sector 46, Gurugram.
The victim, identified as Suman Lata, was thrashed by the accused Vasu Singh, resident of Ballabhgarh in Faridabad, after she objected to him smoking inside the auto.
According to a report published in the Hindustan Times (HT), the incident happened on Monday when the victim, who works in a private hospital in Sector 51, boarded the same auto as the accused while returning to her home.
Bothered by the man, the victim asked him to stop smoking, which he ignored, following which Lata herself pulled the cigarette from his mouth and threw it out. This angered the man and in a fit of rage he hit her in the face, chest and stomach, leaving the victim bleeding profusely.
The auto driver then informed the police and the victim's family about the incident.
As per reports by the NDTV, the accused was soon arrested on charges of 323 (assault), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt. However, he was later granted bail, said sub inspector Amit Kumar, investigation officer.
