GT vs SRH: Shashank Singh overtakes Virat Kohli during hurricane knock of 25 off 6 balls
India Today
Shashank Singh came to bat in the penultimate over of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and took the attack to the Gujarat Titans' (GT) bowlers.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Shashank Singh, on Wednesday, April 27, became the Indian batter with the highest strike rate in an innings (minimum 25 runs) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 30-year-old made his IPL debut in the 2022 edition in the match against Ravindra Jadeja’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday, April 9 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.
But he didn’t get to bat in his first five outings as the Sunrisers top and middle-order did most of the work. The right-hander eventually got his chance to bat in the game against Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After he came to bat with SRH’s score at 161/5 in 18 overs, he threw his bat at everything to stay unbeaten on 25 off 6 balls with one four and three sixes.
The right-hander made his intentions clear with a cover-drive off Alzarri Joseph on the very first ball he faced. But he launched an assault on New Zealand speedster Lockie Ferguson in the 20th over of the Sunrisers’ innings. Singh started with a colossal six over the deep mid-wicket region.
Thereafter, the belligerent batter scooped Ferguson for a massive six over deep fine leg. The right-hander finished off with a hat-trick of sixes after he clobbered the pacer down the ground for a six. David Miller tried his best to catch the ball at long off, but his valiant efforts went in vain.
