Elected representatives discuss pros and cons of the proposal
The move to include areas on the outskirts of Mysuru under the ambit of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) and upgrade the civic body into “Bruhat Mysuru Mahanagara Palike” or Greater Mysuru received a push on Monday when a meeting of elected representatives discussed the pros and cons of the proposal.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Minister for Cooperation S.T. Somashekar, who is also the Minister in charge of Mysuru district, said the proposal was endorsed by the elected representatives.
The elected representatives opined that the residents of areas falling under Hootagalli City Municipal Council, Bogadi, Srirampura and Ramanahalli Town Panchayats and Chamundi Hills, Alanahalli and Siddalingapura gram panchayats can be provided better basic amenities if the local bodies are brought under the jurisdiction of MCC.
Though the areas falling under these local bodies on the outskirts of Mysuru are witnessing rapid growth, planned development was not taking place, thereby denying the residents of many basic facilities. Hence, the elected representatives favoured inclusion of the areas under the ambit of MCC.
The move will not only help an estimated 1.54 lakh people get proper basic amenities, but also bring additional revenue to MCC.
The officials have been asked to prepare a blueprint for the development of Mysuru by gathering more information about the CMC, Town Panchayats and Gram Panchayats.
The Government is expected to take a suitable decision in the regard after completing the due formalities.
