The trailer and audio launch of Chiyaan Vikram's Ponniyin Selvan were held in Chennai today, September 6, much to the delight of fans. Speaking at the event, Murali — who is associated with Thenandal Studios Limited — requested the Tamil Nadu government to grant it a tax exemption as it deals with important events from history. Ponniyin Selvan is a period drama, produced by Mani Ratnam and Allirajah Subaskaran under the Madras Talkies and Lyca Productions banners, respectively.
Ponniyin Selvan's trailer and audio launch were held in Chennai today, September 6, in the presence of Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. The matinee idols served as the chief guests for the event. Speaking during the function, Thenandal Studios Limited's Murali urged Tamil Nadu CM to grant it a tax exemption as 'it's not just a film'. He added that the biggie highlights Tamil culture.
"I request CM Stalin to provide tax exemption for Ponniyin Selvan as it's not just a film. It is a film that encapsulates history of Tamils, the geography and our culture," he said.
Ponniyin Selvan, one of Tamil cinema's most ambitious films, revolves around the Chola empire's rich past. Its cast is headlined by Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayaram, Kayam Ravi, Trisha, and Prakash Raj among others. The likes of Kishore, Kalidas Jayaram, and R Sarathkumar are also part of the biggie. The music is composed by Academy Award winner AR Rahman. Ponniyin Selvan is set to become the first Tamil movie to release in IMAX when it hits the screens on September 30. It will premiere on Amazon Prime Video after its theatrical release.
