Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on Monday (January 6, 2025) said it has been a customary practice for years in the Tamil Nadu Assembly to play the Tamil Thai Vazhthu at the start of the proceedings of the House and the national anthem at the end. He said this practice must be preserved.
He said the “Central government-appointed Governor,” whoever it may be, should respect this customary practice.
During the commencement of every Assembly session, a rift between the Governor and the government over the delivery of the customary address has been a common occurrence. This is not good for democracy and such an approach should be dropped, Mr. Vijay said.
The debates should focus on the problems faced by the people and how to address them.
Also, stopping the live telecast of the Assembly proceedings is not acceptable, he said. It is important to telecast the debates between the ruling and Opposition parties in a transparent manner. “I urge the State government to ensure that the Assembly proceedings are telecast live without any disruptions,” Mr. Vijay said.
