Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that Gorakhpur University has been nurturing "Indian education tradition" for decades.
According to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University has been cultivating the "Indian education tradition" for decades.
"The Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University has nurtured the Indian education tradition like River Rapti for the past several decades, and wherever I go in the world I am identified as a student of Gorakhpur University," Singh said as per PTI in his virtual address to the first alumni meet of the varsity.
"The distinguished alumni award conferred on me by the varsity is like 'prasaad' to me," he added.
"During six years of my student life in the university, I actively participated in students’ union politics," the defence minister said.
He added that an alumni meet was an ideal stage, where one got the opportunity to meet their teachers and friends.
Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, the then-chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, established the foundation for the university after Independence, and Mahant Digvijay Nath donated two colleges, after which Gorakhpur University was named after Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhayay, Singh explained.
On this occasion, he also remembered his lecturers and his days at the varsity's Gautam Buddh dormitory. Prof. LB Singh, his PhD advisor, was also honoured.
