GOP Sen. Tim Scott to deliver GOP response for Biden address to Congress

Republican Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina will deliver the GOP response following President Joe Biden's address to a joint session of Congress on April 28.
The decision will give Scott, the lone black Republican senator and the lead Republican negotiator on Congress' policing reform efforts, a prominent national platform with which to speak to the country and counter Biden's message. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and House GOP leader Kevin McCarthy announced on Thursday that Scott had been chosen to give the speech.Elected officials, Jewish advocacy groups and civil rights leaders are vowing to “push back” against the message of a White nationalist group that staged a march last week near downtown Columbus, Ohio, calling the demonstration an act of hate unwelcome in their community – and the United States more broadly.
Senate Democrats have confirmed some of President Joe Biden’s picks for the federal bench this week in the face of President-elect Donald Trump’s calls for a total GOP blockade of judicial nominations – in part because several Republicans involved with the Trump transition process have been missing votes.
