Gold smuggling case: Govt likely to seek explanation from Kerala IAS officer over book
India Today
Senior IAS officer M Sivasankar, who is an accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case, came out with an autobiographical book narrating his version of events.
The Kerala government may seek an explanation from Sivasankar, the principal secretary of sports and youth affairs, for writing a book on his version of events in the gold smuggling case, without prior government approval.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's opinion will also be sought before seeking an explanation. Sivasankar had allegedly received an unofficial nod from the state government to write the book earlier.
The book pertains to the gold smuggling case through a diplomatic channel that shook the foundations of the left government during its first tenure.
M Sivasankar mentions in the book how co-accused Swapna Suresh cheated him. After seeing excerpts from the book, Swapna Suresh publically slammed the bureaucrat and made several revelations about how Sivasankar was aware of the gold smuggling.
The Chief Minister has been informed of the situation. The government is evidently not happy that some of the controversies have now resurfaced. What decision will be taken against the bureaucrat remains to be seen.
