Glenn Maxwell ‘genuinely disappointed’ to miss out on Sri Lanka Tests - I was shattered

33-year-old Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell earned a Test recall after five years on the tour of Sri Lanka, but he didn't get to play a single match.
Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell said that he was “genuinely disappointed” after he couldn’t play a single Test on the tour of Sri Lanka. Back in 2017, the Victorian lost his place in the Test team and earned a recall in the format after as long as five years.
He wasn’t picked initially for the Sri Lanka Tests, but was drafted in as a cover for the injured Travis Head. However, Head passed a fitness test and Maxwell couldn’t get into the eleven in the opening Test.
Ahead of the second Test in Galle, skipper Pat Cummins talked about bringing in Maxwell in place of Mitchell Starc. However, the rub of the green didn’t go in Maxwell’s favour as he again missed out.
Despite missing the games, the 33-year-old Maxwell said that he won’t be giving up hopes of playing in the purest format.
"I was shattered when I got told. It wasn't that I thought they made the wrong call, I was just genuinely disappointed. I really wanted to play. I loved being a part of it [Test cricket], and I loved the thought of playing again,” Maxwell was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.
"Even not thinking about Test cricket for a couple of years, I felt like I was ready again. I loved working with the coaches and coming up with new tactics to deal with difficult spin bowling and balls exploding,” he stated.
"I'm glad Heady got through his fitness test because I'd have hated to be in because of an injury to one of your players. Unfortunately, they changed the conditions. If it was the same conditions for both Tests, I probably would have played. But they made a slightly better wicket, and the selectors made the right call,” Maxwell added.
