Prop. 22 is a controversial ballot measure that was approved by a majority of California voters in November 2020. It allows companies such as Uber (UBER), Lyft (LYFT) and DoorDash to classify their drivers and couriers as independent contractors instead of employees who are entitled to benefits such as healthcare coverage, paid time off and the right to collectively bargain. On Friday, Alameda County Superior Court Judge Frank Roesch determined Prop. 22 is "unconstitutional" and "unenforceable" because a section in the measure limits the ability of future legislatures to amend the law.Venezuelan authorities are investigating opposition leader Maria Corina Machado for alleged treason after she expressed support for a US bipartisan bill that seeks to block Washington from doing business with any entity that has commercial ties with the government of Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro.
