Bengali singer Rupankar Bagchi received online flak for his comments against KK. He has now issued an 'unconditional apology' to KK’s family.
Hours before KK passed away on May 31, Bengali singer Rupankar Bagchi criticised the former during a Facebook Live. The post became viral after KK passed away post performing live at Kolkata's Nazrul Mancha. Soon after, the video spread like wildfire and Rupankar Bagchi was mercilessly trolled on social media. Several actors took a stand against the singer. After facing online furore and threats, Rupankar issued a public apology to KK’s family.
Bengali singer Rupankar Bagchi made certain controversial remarks against KK, hours before his live concert at Kolkata’s Nazrul Mancha on May 31. While Rupankar was already receiving social media flak for his comments, KK’s passing further created an uproar. Rupankar was brutally trolled on social media. He received threats for his comments against the late singer. At a press conference, the Bengali singer issued an ‘unconditional apology’ to KK’s family. Speaking to the media at Kolkata Press Club, Rupankar said, “My unconditional apology for KK’s family, the people of Mumbai and scores of his fans, people who loved him in Kolkata and all over the country. I regret the momentary indiscretion as I was making the Facebook live led to the present situation. I have since deleted the Facebook post but the attacks continue”.
He further added, “Who knew a momentary indiscretion where I could not communicate my thoughts in a proper way and caused anguish to people would lead to such outpouring of anger and hatred against me and my family.” Rupankar also shared, “I am getting physical threats and even threats to my life in the social media over phone and outside.” “There was nothing personal against KK, whom I didn’t know personally. I had only referred to his concert at Nazrul Manch on Monday and the frenzy among the audience,” he further added.
Bengali singer Rupankar Bagchi, hours before KK's live concert and passing, posted a video on Facebook where he made some controversial remarks against the late singer. He said, "After listening to his songs, I realised that we all sing better than KK. What is the hype? It's like KK.. KK.. KK.. who is K ? We are better than any K." His words in Bengali can be translated as, "Some of the singers I have mentioned are better than KK in any performance. Why is there so much excitement about Bombay? Look at South India, Punjab, Odisha, be a Bengali, please." The Facebook Live is now deleted from the O Chand singer's timeline.
KK passed away on May 31 in Kolkata.
