Get some time with family: Michael Vaughan backs Virat Kohli to overcome lean patch after break
India Today
IPL 2022: Virat Kohli struggled to get going for Royal Challengers Bangalore, managing just 341 runs in 16 matches at an average of less than 23.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan urged Virat Kohli to take a break and spend time with his family to rejuvenate and return to action in a better frame of mind. Vaughan said the former India captain needs to be away from competitive action for a bit.
Michael Vaughan said world cricket is so used to seeing Virat Kohli turn up and churn out hundreds every time he walked out to bat but it's not possible for anyone to go through an entire career with only good things happening to him or her.
Kohli has been going through one of his leanest patches in competitive cricket. Plenty was expected fro Kohli after the former captain headed into IPL 2022 after relinquishing captaincy. However, Kohli struggled for any kind of rhythm, managing 341 runs in 16 matches at an average of less than 23.
Kohli got out for 3 golden ducks and failed to trouble the scorers much in the Qualifier 2 against Rajasthan Royals on Friday as RCB were knocked out with their wait for the elusive title extending by another year,
“He is a legendary player who is going through a phase that is not too easy. Two or three years ago you just turned on the telly or arrived at the ground and knew that Virat was going to score a hundred. He just went through one of those periods where every time he batter he seemed to get a hundred. It’s a career, isn’t it? You don’t go through your whole career where everything is so easy,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.
“He just needs a breather. Go and get some time with your family, get on the plane to England and then start to hit some balls again."
Vaughan added that Kohli is too good a player to not return to peak form and a few weeks of break will do him a world of good.
