Geneva: Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States have underlined the great importance they attach to the issue of promoting and protecting women's rights and empowering them economically, and said that they have taken many measures aimed at empowering women and stimulating their participation in all sectors.
This came in a statement delivered by the Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Office in Geneva HE Dr. Hind bint Abdulrahman Al Muftah on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council's (GCC) States, in her capacity as Chair of the GCC Group, during the annual full-day discussion on women's human rights, within the framework of the 56th Session of Human Rights Council in Geneva.
The GCC States indicated that they invested heavily in developing female cadres, and bet on giving Gulf women a high-quality education and training them on an ongoing basis in order to enhance their presence in all sectors.
They pointed out that this explains the continuous successes and leadership positions that Gulf women hold today, which are a source of pride for all GCC countries.
The GCC States stressed the need to focus more on supporting women to hold leadership positions, because this would constitute an important motivation for other women and girls, and push them to participate more effectively and influentially in economic life.
